The SBASK has imposed two conditions on the Ministry of Education to replace only one week of lost learning during the strike. The withdrawal of the decision to compensate for hours and the completion of the pay law to have increased the coffient for classroom teachers from 1-5 are the conditions the Education Ministry has pledged to meet so that the SBASK can make a decision on overtime compensation.
After a two-hour meeting held between the Parliamentary Commission for Education, the ministry, the SBASK and the Parents' Council, the decision has been reached to meet the two SBASK requirements and then become the sole replacement of a week of lost learning.
SBASAK Vice President Vjollca Shala said they are not exploiting children to do shopping, as according to her, Kosovo institutions are responsible for losing hours.
Shala: A week's compensation will be made at the end of the school year
The minister stated that he would make the withdrawal of the missing hours compensation decision during the strike. At the same time, the chairman of the Commission for Education promised that the initiative would be launched to complete the changes of the wage law, and in particular the primary school teacher and teacher, 1-5, to be equal to the upper 6-9 middle-level teacher's cofficiator. So as soon as this is about to be met by changing the wage law then we will invite the board of directors, even though we've previously consulted the mayors of municipal unions, and those with the school union heads who have presented the voice of teachers that will be compensated for a week at the end of the” school year, she said.
She also said that teachers will engage in implementing the curriculum and also in achieving the expected results for this school year.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Shyqi Bytyqi has said they are interested in finding the most appropriate way, only for students not to be harmed. He said it is more important to find a new form for the compensation of the hours and that they are willing to meet USSAK requirements.
Bytyqi: Whatever shape is best for our students we're willing to do.
“We have not been in a race with anyone, we need to be clear because we respect legal procedures, we are called to respect laws that are in force. We can make another decision because no change in calendar year hours can be made without a minister's decision. The first decision came as a proposal from the DKA, now we have a new proposal coming out today from the Kosovo Parliament deputies, we are willing to respect it because we don't work for resentment, we are for the benefit of our students. Whatever shape is best for our students we are willing to make”, he said.
On the other hand, the chairman of the Commission for Education, Ismaj Kureshi, has said that with the agreement that the ministry meet SBASK's demands, they have no reason to replace lost hours.
Kurteshi: There is no reason not to replace classes after met requests
There is no reason to replace classes after their requests have been filled out. There are two of their demands also that the requirement for fulfilling the law is the Commission's initiative before it comes as a requirement, but of course it is theirs now and we will meet it and start procedures when the law allows it. We haven't entered the markets, we're about to replace learning as proposed by the Commission for Education, a work plan that is very reasonable. We don't bargain with the fate of our children”, Kurteshi said.
We remember that at the beginning of the second half anniversary for three weeks teachers have been on strike, where they've asked for a boost to the cofficiency. Then, the Ministry of Education decided that lost hours would be compensated for during spring break, but this did not happen.
