The Interior Ministry bases its decision on the fact that a large number of illegal border crossings have been found. In a letter addressed by the German government to the European Union, the influx of refugees on the Balkan road has been restored again and that at least the last five months have registered about 1,000 cases of illegal passage every month.
Germany for this reason cannot give up the instrument of internal border controls, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer's letter to the EU says.
According to the EU Commission, a similar letter has arrived from Denmark, which also announced that its border controls will continue until November, claiming that Europe's external borders are still under pressure.
In addition, France and Sweden announced Brussels authorities for expanding border controls.
Germany patrols its border with Austria since autumn 2015, as tens of thousands of refugees from Greece via the Balkan route have targeted Western Europe.
