The opening of Albania's membership negotiations with the European Union depends on the “functioning of democratic institutions and parliamentary work. ”
This has been highlighted by German government spokesman Stephen Seibert, who added that the decision to open negotiations will be made after publishing the European Commission's progress report.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron have invited Balkan leaders to Berlin on April 29th.
Explaining the reason for Chancellor Merkel and President Macron's invitation, Seibert said they want to talk to “their co-ordinators about specific challenges in the region and primarily for Serbia-Kosovo dialogue. ”
The spokesman refused to say anything about expectations from the conference, but added that meeting “is further fruit of Germany's deep interest in the positive development of the Western Balkans. ”
Earlier, Prime Minister Rama has said Albania deserves the opening of membership negotiations in June and warned that the European Union would show “did monumently from strategic perspective”, if it opened negotiations only for northern Macedonia.
