The EU again warns Kosovo: Take off the tax, you're driving yourself obstacles to the EU

European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic has reiterated once again the EU requirement that Kosovo authorities immediately suspend the tax imposed on goods from Serbia, drawing attention that this fee impedes Kosovo on its path towards EU integration. While not declared for EU bias. Kocijancic has also spoken of [...]
Kocijancic has also spoken of the negotiating team's role in dialogue and visa liberalisation, has called on both countries to ensure a favourable environment for dialogue.
The EU, she says, expects both countries -- Kosovo and Serbia -- to immediately engage in dialogue, given the direct link between the full normalisation of relations and concrete prospects for their European aspirations.
“Dialogue on normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina, mediated by the EU, aims to promote co-operation and reconciliation between the two sides, to help them score progress on the European road and improve people's lives. The European Union expects Serbia and Kosovo to immediately engage in dialogue, given the direct link between full normalisation of relations and concrete prospects for their European aspirations”, it says.
Speaking of the fragile situation that has been created since now, she says Kosovo authorities' November last year's decision to impose tariffs on products imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia has not helped create the environment necessary for continued dialogue.
“Sic has been repeatedly said, the European Union, along with member states and the US, urge the Kosovo government to suspend the tariffs immediately in order to allow quick continuation of dialogue. The status quo is not an option and there is no option for immediate continuation of dialogue between the parties. Tarifat, not only stay on the road to dialogue but also on the road to Kosovo's European integration”, it stresses.
She has said the EU welcomes the negotiating team's involvement, as dedication to the Kosovo side in normalising the dialogue process. While failing to comment on the sides' positions in the dialogue.
The European Union welcomes the negotiating team's role and involvement as a demonstration of the priority Kosovo authorities are pointing to for normalisation of the process. The European Union has seen the Parliament adopt the Law on Dialogue and Dialogue Platform. As mediator, the EU does not comment on the individual positions of the dialogue parties. The final agreement can only be reached through negotiations”, she says.
Until March 21st 2018, Kosovo's Assembly has ratified demarcation of the border with Montenegro, which was said to be a condition for visa liberalisation, this did not happen.
Asked whether injustice has been done to the free movement of Kosovo citizens as European citizens, Kocijancic says it is up to the Parliament and the European Council to approve the Commission's visa-free travel proposal.
The “Commission has presented the proposal for abolishing visas for Kosovo in 2016, meaning that by the day of the adoption of this proposal by Parliament and the European Council, Kosovo will have ratified two unresolved criteria: Ratification of the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro and strengthening its data in the fight against organised crime and corruption. Kosovo has already met all required standards. It is already up to Parliament and the European Council to approve the Commission's proposal to enable Kosovo's citizens to travel without visas”, she says in her response to the KP.
As Serbia continues to do propaganda against Kosovo, even hindering INTERPOL membership, lobbies against attracting recognitions from countries that have recognised us while no one is preventing it, the EU spokeswoman says the two countries must provide a favourable environment for dialogue and refrain from actions that are contrary to the spirit of normalisation.
Kosovo and Serbia must provide a favourable environment for dialogue and refrain from words, actions and measures that are contrary to the spirit of normalisation. The EU expects Serbia and Kosovo to immediately engage in dialogue, given the direct link between full normalisation of relations and concrete prospects for their European aspirations”, it says.
Despite that, Kocijancic, though questioned, does not point to whether Kosovo-Serbia dialogue should have better results.
“As the High Representative and EU Deputy Chairman have clearly said: Belgrade-Pristina dialogue has to do with all elements that are necessary for full normalisation of reports, all unresolved issues, including sensitive and complicated ones. A legally binding Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Agreement mediated by the EU must be in line with international law and the EU position, as well as contribute to the welfare, stability and security of the region”, Kocijancic has said.
Otherwise, Serbia continues to present great damage to the people of Kosovo. Last year alone, this state has stopped dozens of citizens at the Merdar border, while those allowed to pass from Kosovo have to pay their pro-visitive signs until they are recognised and equipped with special border entry sheets.
Despite that, the EU continues to pressure the Kosovo side for the suspension of the tax, failing to declare whether it is being unilaterally shown in this respect.
