Everyone thinks the Eiffel Tower is most visited, but according to data, Notre-Dam is the most visited building in France. Notre-Dami's cathedral started building in 1163.
It was originally built as a Catholic church. The idea was to build a church that would be multicolored and with many roses.
This cathedral took its first shape and opened a century later, about 1260, but it took another century to complete its original structure.
The first stone of this temple was set by Pope Alexander III, after the chairman of Paris, Maurice de Sully, proposed that the cathedral be built after the 1160 elections.
The original structure was completed in 1345, and it was originally known as “our Paris office”. This, even though it took a century to complete, construction and reconstruction in it actually never stopped.
Many renowned artists have written about this cathedral, including Victor Hugo, in his novel “The Kurizo of Notre-Dam”, which was published in 1831, and was created as a film by the Disney Company in 1996.
Each year, the cathedral was visited by an average of 13 million people, or more than 30,000 visitors a day, and is believed to be the most visited place in France.
