This was announced during Thursday by the Demining Co-ordination Centre, which operates within the defence ministry, where the International Demination Day was marked. The Strategic Demination Plan was introduced on this occasion for 2019-2024.
Director of the Demination Co-ordination Centre Ahmet Salova said that in October 2018, Kosovo has 15.5km of danger areas with Caspian bombs.
“The strategy begins with a reflection of the background of the extent and impact of the remaining mine problem and war explosives in Kosovo. The strategy then presents a risk analysis before elaborating mine action. In October 2018 the remaining dangerous areas of Kosovo's casserial bombs are of 155km, while landmine mines are covered by 1.3km2, as well as areas mixed with an area of 45,000 m2. Since 1999, 23712 AP mines, 6113 AT mines, 21348 casserole bombs and 38631 other explosive devices have been discovered and destroyed in total, Saova said.
According to this centre, the strategic mine action plan represents strategic orientation for the mine action programme and other explosive means in the Kosovo republic for the period 2019-2024.
This plan replaces Kosovo's medium-term strategic plan for the mine action programme 2015-2018.
Deputy Defence Minister Agim Ceku said the KSF is the most reliable institution and the area of demining is one of the operations that makes them boast mostly.
We value the damage issue as a very important issue, and I am honored to be here to thank you for the work you have achieved in the results of Kosovo's field punishment. There's no more noble work than protecting the lives of all citizens today. We're presenting this plan yesterday. There's no better way to mark the International Mine Safety Day. The KSF is the most reliable institution in Kosovo, and many factors have contributed to this outcome, and one of the operations that we boast too much is exactly demining”, Ceku said.
