New Zealand Prime Minister Yacinda Ardern, who became known for the genuine compassion he displayed toward family and survivors of the tragedy in Christchurch, has called for a global war against the extreme right-right ideology and racism.
In one of the first interviews by her country's devastating tragedy, she told the BBC she denied the idea that increased immigration was feeding racism, Periscopi translates.
50 Muslims were killed on Friday, while they were worshiped in two mosques of Christchurch, by a white primacyist named Brentan Tarrant.
Their first funerals began Wednesday.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at a cemetery near the Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, which was one of two countries where the act of terrorism, the largest in New Zealand's modern history, took place.
Asked about the rise in nationalism of the extreme right, Prime Minister Ardern stated: “this was an Australian citizen, but it can still be said that we do not have such people, with such ideology in our country [New Zealand].”
Furthermore, she added: “But I would make global calls. What New Zealand has experienced was the violence brought by someone who grew up and learned ideology elsewhere. If we make sure globally that we are a safe, tolerant, and comprehensive world, we can no longer think within national boundaries.” /Periscopi
