Wisner's message for dialogue with Serbia: Do not delay the term, but with the agreement you want to reach

US Special Emissar at the Contact Group for Kosovo, Frank Wisner, as Serbian media reports, thinks that even after more than ten years since the Contact Group tried to resolve the Kosovo issue, the situation did not change even though in 2008. Kosovo declared its independence. Wisner, however, thinks he does not [...]
Wisner, however, thinks no deadlines should be set for the final agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, but the long-term and compromise agreement must be reached with dialogue.
You're putting yourself on the deadline, of course you won't meet them. Before you give yourself a deadline, it's better to have a strategic agreement than what goals you want to reach”, the South quoted Wisner as saying.
According to the Serbian news agency, the US diplomat said that in 2007, with German Wolfgang Ischinger and Russian Aleksandar Botzan-Kharchenko trying to get to the formula that would satisfy both sides, but that was impossible, so, as Wisner was quoted, the “sitata is just as they left”, Koha.net broadcast.
Unresolved relations between Serbia and Kosovo and the unresolved situation undermine the ambitions of two nations. It prevents the full development of Kosovo and prevents the Serbian vision of the future and the full possibility of fully continuing the path towards the EU”, said Wisner, who has been in Belgrade this week and has participated in the “Balkan dialogue gathering, dedicated to talks on problems in the region and Kosovo.
He believes the only way to move forward is the joint agreement which should have strong EU and US support, while according to him, for the form and contents of the responsible agreement are Belgrade and Pristina.
“I have hoped that Kosovo and Serbia would at some point be able to behave as equal to others and to each other, by respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty, that they could reach agreement and co-operate for a better Balkans and for this part of Europe. It didn't turn out that way and we still have to work on this”, he said.
45 people attended the meeting, and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has spoken on it.
“Vukiqi has presented its position and views on the situation regarding Kosovo. We were able to raise questions. This was a meeting at which we would reach any conclusion and no place for negotiations, but he made us aware that he personally focused on the problem of Serbia and Kosovo”, has shown little about the Wisner meeting that has been closed for media.
