The finalisation of the Rambouillet Conference in Paris 20 years ago was Kosovo's first diplomatic victory, which opened the way for NATO military intervention to prevent ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.
So wrote the country's president, Hashim Thaci, in a Facebook post, where he has remembered the 20th anniversary of the finalisation of the Rambouillet conference.
This agreement finalised the Kosovo liberation process, initiated by our sacrifice and war. It became a testament to Kosovo's declaration of independence”, Thaci writes.
The president, taking an example of unifying the political spectrum in Rambouillet, has called for following the same example for Kosovo's EU membership and international organisations.
The unification of the political spectrum at the time and the unwavering trust in the United States made it possible to reach this agreement after difficult and exhausting negotiations. Today, as 20 years ago, we must all unite to live up to the next dream of Kosovo's membership in the EU, NATO and UN”, the president emphasises.
