Human Rights Lawyer Sentenced 38 Years in Prison

“Nasrin Sotoudeh has dedicated her life to protect women's rights and speaking against the death penalty”, Philip Luther of Amnesty International said.
The “is completely fierce that Iranian authorities are condemning it for its human rights work,” he added.
Sotudeh's husband confirmed her sentence on Facebook, following a brief telephone conversation with her from prison, according to Iran's Human Rights Centre.
While her lawyer said she was accused of spreading information against the state, insulting Iran's supreme leader and spying.

She is one of seven human rights lawyers arrested in Iran last year.
Sotudeh was first imprisoned in 2010 for spreading propaganda and plotting to undermine state security and was released in 2013.
She had denied those charges and, while in prison, the European Parliament gave her the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought for her work representing opposition activists. /Periscope/
