Brussels has indicated that the vote by the MEPs to block a Brex without agreement under any circumstances is a meaningless move, with a European negotiator describing it as “Titanic voting for the iceberg to be removed from”.
The European Commission spokesman offered a disparaging statement of the parliament members' decision to ignore Prime Minister May's claim that Brex without an agreement was the position that would follow unless an agreement is approved by the United Kingdom's release.
“We are seeing votes in the House of Representatives this evening,” the spokesman said. “There are only two ways to leave the EU: with or without agreement. The EU is prepared for both. To remove a no-greement from the table, it's not enough to vote for that thing you have to agree to a deal. We have agreed to a deal with the prime minister, and the EU is willing to sign it. ”
MPs voted 312 for and 308 against removing the possibility of Great Britain leaving the EU without agreement. /Periscopi
