People who eat three or four eggs a day have a higher risk of affecting both heart disease and premature death than those who eat fewer eggs, according to a new discovery.
“Eggs, particularly yellow eggs, are a major source of dietary cholesterol”, writes Victor Zing, the lead author of the study.
In the study published Friday in the medical journal JAMA, he and his colleagues noted that a single large egg contains about 186 mg of cholesterol.
Researchers have examined data from six study groups, including 29,000 people.
During the following period, a total of 5,400 cases of cardiovascular disease, including 1,302 fatal and non-fatal shocks, 1,897 incidents of fatal and non-fatal heart failure, and 113 other deaths due to heart disease. 6,132 other participants in the study died for other causes.
Consumers of 300 mg diet cholesterol per day are accompanied by a 3.2% higher risk of heart disease and a 4.4% higher risk of premature death.
And every half of the extra eggs consumed per day were linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and 1.9% higher risk of premature death, according to researchers, the Express broadcasts.
