The HIV of patients in the United Kingdom has become undetectable “ ” after a transplant of healthy cells) in just the second case of this kind, doctors report, the Periscope translates.
The patient from London who was being treated for cancer has been in HIV treatment for 18 months now and is not taking medication to treat the disease.
Researchers say it is still early to view the patient as the “cured” by HIV.
Experts say the attempt in question is not practical for healthy people with HIV but can ultimately help find a cure.
A male patient from London was diagnosed with HIV in 2003, and then with Hodgkins' lymphoma in 2012.
He had to do cancer chemotherapy and also healthy cells were programmed by an HIV-resistant donor, leading to cures of cancer as well as HIV.
This is the second time the patient treated in this way manages to heal.
