“We believe that the inclusion of RTK workers in the newly approved Law on Salaries in the Public Sector represents conflict with the current Law for RTK and the country's constitution, which promote institutional and editorial independence of the public broadcaster's service,” is said in the Union of European Broadcasting in Geneva, Switzerland.
Under the current Law for RTK, the broadcaster is free to select/track its human resources as part of institutional autonomy in an open, transparent and competitive manner.
“RTK is an important democratic institution, which has for the mission to serve all segments of society and rain for this provision of its editorial independence in line with European standards, specifically with Council of Europe recommendations 96 (10) on independence and 2012 (1) on public broadcaster governance, is of special importance,” is said further in the EBU statement.
We also call on authorities in Kosovo to adopt the new Law on RTK, which will provide a stable, independent and predictable financing for the broadcaster, as well as ensure sufficient protection of institutional and editorial autonomy, including autonomy on human resources policies.
“The independent and powerful service of a public media is an important precondition for countries aspiring to join the European Union,” stresses EBU.
