The newspaper that had thrown broken hands of workers into the container publishes pictures of the minor from Drenas

From Tuesday, when the tragic case of child sexual abuse became public, professionalism and ethics during reporting were required by the media so that the investigation process was not damaged.

Research into the sexual abuse of a minor by a teacher and later by a police investigator shocked opinion in the country, even protests were held in Drenas and Pristina.

The 16-year-old Drinas, whose identity was kept confidential by the media, was sexually abused by Shkelzen Jakaj and later by police investigator Vesel Wessel, whose detention measure was assigned. For 48 hours, gynecologist Fehmi Ahmeti had also been detained, in whose administration the mandatory abortion of minors had been performed.

But serious legal and ethical violations made today the Margarita Kadriut newspaper “Kosova Sot”, which by being called into its own sources, published pictures of 16 years old with A.G. initials.

Imer Mosskolaj of the Kosovo Booked Media Council has told Periscope that the victim's identity was never meant to be revealed.

According to him, this way of reporting does not contribute to the information of citizens at all, but shows the misery of those who, in the purpose of formalization, do not choose means, shape, or moment to report unprofessionally.

“Last night he called for caution in the report. The identity of the victim was by no means to be revealed. The media have to respect the code of ethics and do not act that way for a little more readification/view/click. The media should be held responsible for the way they report based on legal regulation and the ethical code. This way of reporting doesn't contribute to citizen information, but it does show the misery of those who, with the aim of sensationalism, do not choose tools, shape, or moment to report unprofessionally”, has said Mushkolaj about Periscope.

Even in a response yesterday, the Kosovo Media Council requested maximum caution during the report on the case.

“Failure to reveal the identity of children and minors represents the fundamental rule in their defense, while unnecessary publication of direct and indirect information that may reveal their identity represents serious violations of journalism ethics. KMKK also requires that, in these cases, the treatment of confessions of personal tragedy should be conducted carefully, while individuals affected by the tragedy should have access to understanding and discretion”, the Media Council's response said.

But publishing pictures of the juvenile girl from Drenas is not the only scandal in Margarita Kadri's newspaper.

In 2014, Lulzim Rexha of Prekazi had lost his hand in printing press “Kosova Sot”.

In fact, the lost part of his hand, Rex, said he had been thrown into a trash container until he had been in critical condition because of the huge loss of blood, until work had continued as if nothing had happened.

Rex himself had confessed how Margarita Kadriu had offered him two thousand euros to cover this scandal, offering him no other option. / P ERISCOPIA
