Kosovo Government Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Izmi Zeka tells Radio Free Europe that Kosovo has submitted membership application in INTERPOL on 31 January this year.
The “has also been confirmed by INTERPOL that the Republic of Kosovo's request has been accepted. Now there are technical issues and political aspects that Kosovo should make under its diplomatic commitments, so that when the INTERPOL session is held, then we can see the situation of how it will go. But, however, we believe this year will be of greater commitments so that Kosovo can be equal to all other states and have direct keys (in INTERPOL)”, Zeka said.
On the other hand, Serbia's authorities have said they are preparing to reject Kosovo's admission to INTERPOL and other international organisations.
Serbia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivica Dacic, has last week named suicide action Kosovo's application for membership in INTERPOL.
Kosovo is again submitted to be admitted to INTERPOL. I have to say I don't understand this Kosovo need for such suicide acts, because they're going to lose a lot worse than they lost. They may also appear for (membership in) U n NESTO. So, we're preparing for such a fight”, Dacic stressed.
But Deputy Prime Minister Zeka stresses that Kosovo institutions will try to do all the right work so that Kosovo can become part of INTERPOL this year.
Now, if we've made any mistakes or if we haven't managed to do all the right work, then this year should be the year we have to review and we have to take the concrete steps. Of course, we should be aware that we cannot do this work ourselves without our international friends, especially the United States, England, France and other countries. So we'll see if we can coordinate and move on. I'm also saying now that Serbia lives with the past and of course we don't have to expect from what it does, but we have to do our job”, Zeka stressed, forward Isander.
