Among them were Sheriff Luta, from the village of Ivaya of Kacanik, whose picture had hit the world. Today, the Sheriff lives with her husband and children in old Kacanic. The sheriff remembers the same emotion on the day that the picture was taken.
“Viti 1999. On March 8 we left home after the promotions started. I was 22 when I joined the convoy. It's been a very difficult day. Beth was too young and cried all the time. We haven't had anything to eat and drink, the girl's been in her bosom all the time. I've also had the help of the sister-in-law and dad”, says Sheriff Luta. With her head wrapped in a white head and her breast outside, feeding her six - month - old baby, the Sheriff had become “Mother from the photo of the world forehead”. “There were many cameramen, but they marked the most difficult cases. The picture was taken to me in Blace, and they wanted a sound promotion, but I couldn't because I was so tired”, further showing Sheriff Luta.
Sheriff Luta had taken the only way, without her husband Mirvat Luten, because he was united NLA, without knowing what was happening to his family, or even worse, without knowing if they were alive. I didn't know where they went. First they had gone to Skopje, then to Tetovo. After days a fellow warrior of mine came and told me that I had family members in Tetovo. I met with them after about six months”, Mirvat Luta says about RTV Dukagjin.
The girl who had appeared in the world media, in her mother's womb, was only six months old. Besiana is 20 years old today, and she said that for that picture, she has a lot of emotions today because she had been told a lot about her parents.
My parents told me when I was in third grade. Every time I see this picture, I get excited. My mother made a lot of sacrifices for me. It is a story that has left Kosovo”, Besiana Luta says.
Those difficult days of survival, although 20 years later, are still very fresh in memory.
