Divided by life at 102 years of academic age Idriz Ayeti

Academia Idriz Ayjeti has now passed away in Pristina, at the age of 102.

Kosovo's Academy of Sciences and Arts emphasises that the albanologist, languager and intellectual, professor and non-reliable activity in our social developments, a member of the Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts, and its chairman in two mandates, an honorary member of the Albanian Academy of Sciences, Erudite scholar, scientific personality, without the contributions of which albanological studies in Kosovo and beyond that would not be what it is today, the academic Ajet was and remains one of the brightest figures in our new history.

He finished his studies after World War II in 1949 at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy. By 1953 he was an Albanian - speaking professor in the Pristina Gymnasium. In 1953-1960 he worked lecturer at the Albanology Branch in Belgrade. In 1958, he was promoted to the theme: “The historic development of the gay speech of the Albanians of the Dalmatian Zatra”. By 1960, he taught at the Albanian Language and Literature Branch at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pristina, once docent, then inordine professor, and from 1968 ordinarian professor.

The main areas of his scientific interest have been dialect studies from a diakronic point of view, Albanian reports with neighbouring languages, on the plains of Balkan studies, the treatment of early linguistic documents, written in Arabic-Turkish alphabets, and so on. It has been taken care of in today's Albanian language issues and has arranged meetings and linguistic consultation to seek permanent solutions about the unification of Albanian. Prof. Ajeti has special merits in Albanian standardisation processes.

In Pristina, Tirana and elsewhere have been published in volumes of his selected studies. He has drafted textbooks for high school students and students of the Albanian Language and Literature Branch.

In 1997-2002 The Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts published its full work in five volumes.

At his initiative, as head of the Albanian Language Department after the opening of the Faculty in Pristina (1960), the scientific magazine “Genome albanological” was released, and in 1974 the Albanian Language, Literature and Culture Festival was organised for foreigners.

During 1969-1971 was director of the Albanology Institute, in 1971-73 dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, in 1973-75 Pristina University's rector.

A Member SHAK was elected to the first generation of academics and immediately took up the academic title, while in 1979 he was elected chairman until 1981. In 1996 he will be re-elected chairman and head the Academy until 1999.

Idriz Ayjet's presence in scientific and cultural life, as well as in all social developments, has been visible and essential. His work is also extended to human rights and social activity. Academyary Idriz Ayjet has been Kosovo Parliament Speaker in one of its most difficult periods, as well as participants of the Rambouillet Conference. With the death of the Idriz Academy of Sciences and Arts in Kosovo, the death of the Academy of Kosovo has lost the authority of the largest of our scientific work, the professor, the event, the wise and learned man”, the ASHAK report said.
