A footman has suffered serious injuries after being hit by the train yesterday on Pristina's Peja rail line in the segment going around the barracks “Adem Jashari” respectively.
The 20-year-old hit by the train last night has been operated in emergency by the team of caretaker neurosurgeons, while after the operation has been transferred to intensive central treatment, the Bureau for Information at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (QKUK).
According to witnesses, the accident was suspected to have occurred until the young man had dropped off a car and was trying to cross the railway line. As the causes of this accident are under investigation, what is known is that cases of accidents in Kosovo railways have been occurring.
Each year about 30 traffic accidents occur on Kosovo railways. Only this early year have four accidents occurred between cars and trains.
According to Kosovo Police statistics in 2017, 27 accidents were caused between cars and trains where 2 people lost their lives, one of the victims was footrid, while in the past year 31 accidents occurred, an accident resulted in fatality where 3 people died.
As the most frequent cause of railroad accidents, according to police is carelessness.
