The ban on use of military weapons came after shooting at the Christchurch mosque, in which 51 people were killed in March.
Briton Nathan Smith, who survived the attack, tells of the BBC horror he experienced during the attack.
” He went into the mosque shooting at people and I was so lucky to be saved. Every time I come here, I remember everything was so terrible, 51 people lost their lives and many others were injured.
New Zealand has already destroyed some 50,000 weapons.
In New Zealand, 1 person in 4 carries weapons, and this is like a tradition that has been inherited over the years.
Many do not agree with the law that the state has enacted, arguing that Zealand has other things to do before it passes to the arms ban.
There are others who feel that this is a law that has to go into effect more time and that it is best for their country.
Police have named the operation conducted so far and hope to continue such until the end.
