Kosovo's schools and public universities today have been held a two-hour strike in a sign of dissatisfaction with the failure to implement the Law of Salaries, which ombudsman Hilmi Jashar sent to the Constitutional Court last week after acknowledging complaints that there are violations in this law.
And the decision to strike the United Trade Union for Education, Science and Culture took days before the Constitutional Court came up with the decision to suspend the Law of Salaries by March 2020.
SBASK Vice President Vjollca Shala has confirmed that in all public educational institutions in the country, a two-hour strike is under way.
Shala further said that after yesterday's Constitutional Court ruling for suspending the Law of Salaries has been passed, not excluding the strikes said the SBASK leadership will meet to make decisions regarding the Constitutional decision.
I believe soon after we get the opinions of teachers and members of our membership we'll ask the board of directors and municipal unions to talk with membership to bring about a further decision. I don't even rule out the strike, but I don't say it's going to be a strike, such a decision is brought by the SBASK Steering Council as the highest body in the middle of both congress”, she said.
Disgusted with the strikes that the SBASK is organising expressed parents who said students are being hurt.
Fadil Cana has declared that it would be best for such strikes to be organized after school hours, as they would find their parents' support.
He said even the test results P ISA has shown the state of education in Kosovo, so these strikes are not useful to students, according to him.
Kosova pres this morning has stayed at lower elementary school” Faik Konica” and “Naim Frajri” in Pristina, but was not allowed to receive images and statements from teachers of the ongoing strike.
The ninth-grader at lower elementary school “Faik Konica”, Yorik Ibrahimi, said the teachers have given them to go to school, even though the lesson will not be held for the first two hours.
Although he says these strikes do not cause him much trouble, Yorik recalled last year's three-week strike, which he said damaged them.
Due to the suspension of the Law of Salaries by the Constitutional Court, strikes are also holding the health system except the Emergency Clinic.
