Several local schools and businesses were also put in temporary lockdown, the BBC writes.
A motive for the incident has not yet been established. Authorities say they do not believe it was a terrorist attack.
Authorities identified the policeman who died as Joseph Seas, 39, who was part of a broad state programme for the seizure of illegal weapons.
Speaking to reporters, Jersey Police Chief Mike Kelly said that Mr. Seals was a “leading police officer on the removal of weapons from”./Periscopi/
