According to the BBC, American media quoted an officer as saying that two people are in critical condition for life, so far no deaths have been reported.
The incident took place at Canal St between the Bourbon streets and Chartres around 3:20 local time.
Police said in their Twitter announcement that a suspected “was arrested near the site of the” event.
They later claimed they have not made any statements yet, since it is still unknown who could be the suspect in the case.
11 injured have been taken to the hospital, police and legal medical teams are still at the scene.
