During Sunday, panic broke out when the tram left the station to head toward the western city of Bonnie.
Two men rushed into the cabin where the driver was not giving signs of life.
A woman called the transportation company to get instructions, and passengers managed to stop the tram, writes the BBC, translates Periscope.
Shortly before they broke the cabin, terrified passengers had called the police, and emergency brakes had been unable to stop the tram. The incident had occurred about 1: 00 a.m.
“They did exactly what was to be done in a dangerous situation and saved lives,” said the chairman of Bonnie, Ashok Sridharan.
The local transportation company SWB defended itself as prosecutors prepare to investigate the event.
The company said the emergency brakes did not stop the tram but simply alarmed the driver who should then communicate the passenger instructions. /Periscope
