There have been 19 deaths from the volcano explosion in New Zealand.
The death toll increased after police reported that another person died in the hospital Sunday evening, writes The Guardian.
At the time of the volcano explosion on December 9, 47 people were on the White Island. Initially, 13 people had died, and about 20 others had suffered severe burns. The last victim is the sixth person to die in the hospital.
Two bodies of missing persons have yet to be found. Authorities believe they have fallen to sea after a storm that swept the island shortly after the volcano erupted.
Many of the dead were Australian tourists who were headed for the island by ship. Some of them were spending their honeymoon.
Authorities had sounded the alarm on November 18th because of the rise in seismic activity of the volcano, and it is not known why the decision was made to halt visits to the dangerous island.
