The consequences of rape are also bringing the children of women victims

They are living on wounds left behind until they are terrified of public exposure, now two decades on their shoulders are holding the greatest challenge in life. Thousands of women from Kosovo are living with the horrors they experienced during the 98-99 war. Traumas are not just remaining under [...]
Unfortunately, many of them lost their lives, and some decided to stop living, Kosovo's living heroes are living in fear of failing to be good mothers.
The survival of sexual violence, Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, who was 16 years old when she was violated by two Serbian police officers, stressed for Kosova Press, the difficulties she had in raising her two daughters, blaming herself for what happened to her.
You blame yourself if you can achieve the goal of educating children well, raising them well. And I thought with my trauma, that I lived through it every day, I'd carry it to the kids. Now science has confirmed that during pregnancy that trauma is carried. It's not something that I'm guilty of, or that I've been able to do something different from myself, but it happens that during pregnancy the mother's trauma to the child”, she relates.
Known as a courageous ambassador, Krasniqi-Goodman, who is already a mother of two girls, points out that in both her daughters, she has observed a dose of anxiety, which was delivered during pregnancy.
Taking into account the concern of Kosovo mothers, months ago there was also a research that showed the effects of mothers who were part of sexual violence during the war. The study refers, not to children born of sexual violence during the war, but to mothers victims of sexual violence.
The director of the Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors, Feride Rushiti, tells Kosovo that along with the Danish Institute for Torture in Denmark, and with financial support from the British Embassy in Kosovo, they have investigated possible mechanisms explaining how the effects of trauma can be overcome from one generation to another.
There are changes to children who have been a representative sample for this sensitive social group. It's mostly taken blood from 120 children from mothers who have been exposed to sexual violence during the war that has manifested posttraumatic stress disorders, and mothers who have manifested disorder and have been seen to carry trauma to their children. The trauma that can be manifested in various forms in children, not only in the field of mental health but can also be manifested with metabolic disorders, health disorders, metabolic reductions, and then behavioral disorders”, Rushiti says.
According to the study, children born to mothers with post-trametic stress disorders during pregnancy were more likely to have high levels of cortisol compared to mothers without post-trammatic stress disorders during pregnancy.
If there is a healthy environment, she feels that even if these cases are present, they can be sagged and need not be disturbed by mothers. It has asked institutions for a comprehensive approach so that these post-war concerns can be arranged in the early days so that these children can enjoy a normal life.
Sami Rexhepi, a neuropsychiater, says that sexual rape itself is a major trauma the mother experiences, which unfortunately follows throughout her life.
We're coming back 50 to 60 years ago, you sure heard how our grandmothers wanted to save the pregnancy from some traumatic information, some death case or something, they've always tried to save the pregnancy as much as possible. It's the day before, even though our grandmothers haven't been able to explain what kinds of psychological disorders that occur with cortisol. But they knew the pregnancy had to be protected. In fact, by defending the pregnancy, the child who's in the womb was protected. During development until birth, the child experiences with his mother, the trauma that his mother experiences. Because the change that happens, obviously through mother's blood, goes to the baby”, Rexhepi shows.
These traumas, Rexhepi says, are conveyed not only to the child of the bully but to all children whose mother has experienced the trauma of sexual rape.
Neuropsichiatri shows that children can have metabolic changes in behavior but also mental health.
We're talking about mothers dropping stress levels. In a child after birth, it has to be a sense because they will normally be more sensitive than the children of other mothers, and don't blame them. So both sides require enormous support, a huge support. Starting with the family, there's the beginning, and then we as a society even though we're not at that level yet to get these and support it”, he adds.
Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman has asked the institutions not to come up with numbers, but to provide opportunities for proper treatment of these children.
Otherwise, this is the first study of women experiencing sexual trauma and resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder, suggesting inter-relative transmission of trauma in the form of epigenetic changes in children.
In Kosovo there are about 20,000 women and men who have been sexually violated by the Serb criminal conqueror, and none of them have been convicted.
Part of Milosevic's device that committed crimes and genocide in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia was Serbia's current president, Aleksandar Vuciq, and now Serbia's former prime minister, Ivica Dacic.
