It was celebrated in Oberdorf near Salzburg, in the town of Mozart with a rich musical tradition from which the family of singer Von Trapp (“My songs, my dreams”).
In the past two centuries, the silent “Night, the sacred night” has become an almost cultural phenomenon, the base of the Christmas canon in all cultures around the world.
The song was translated into more than 300 languages and dialects, including Latin, and in 2011 it was added to the list of U NESTO for cultural heritage.
It was sung by all the singers in the world, ranging from Bing Crossby to Mariah Carey. The song literally inspired peace.
On the eve of Christmas 1914, at the beginning of World War I, soldiers in Flanders placed their weapons and helmets in their holes and sang together “Silent Night, holy night”
More than one million people visit during November and December”, says Leo Baurnberger, head of the local tourist board, although most of the museums, shops and other items dedicated to song are open the rest of the year.

The lives of people behind the song are actually dealing with several villages around Salzburg, where they worked, but it all starts with Oberdorf, a small village on the Salzach River, about 20 miles [20 km] north of Salzburg.
