Burn 120 homes from mass fires in Chile

All of the city's firefighters are committed to fighting the flames in the Rouant and San Roque areas. Authorities cut off the power of 90 thousand consumers as a precautionary measure because of the risk of spreading fires via the power grid.

The mayor of this town, Jorge Sharp, told a television television that the fires were deliberately caused, while police have not yet reported on any victims.

For now, emergency teams throughout the city are working through land and air resources. They are focused on the two highest areas of the town of”, the mayor said.

He added that powerful winds and high temperatures are making fires worse. Valparaiso is one of the largest cities in Chile and an important port on the Pacific Coast.

Some 120 acres [120 ha] of pasture have been burned from these fires so far. The central city of Chile is a popular country for tourists as well.
