The study was conducted in China, during which 31,750 people aged 62 were examined, and the results were published in the magazine Neurology.
The study revealed that the rate of stroke in people who sleep longer than nine hours is 23 percent higher than those who sleep seven to eight hours.
And the risk of brain attack on people who sleep regularly for more than 90 minutes during the day is 25 percent higher than those who sleep at most an hour or not.
The study also shows that those who sleep longer than nine hours during the night and over 90 minutes during the day have an 85 percent higher risk of stroke.
During the study, the health state of subjects was monitored for six years, and during that period 1,557 of them suffered brain attacks.
Xiaomin Zhang from Hujeong University, said the results suggest more research is needed regarding the link between long sleep and the risk of assault on the brain.
He adds that previous research has shown that those who sleep at night or day have unwanted changes at their cholesterol level.
In addition, overnight sleep and sleep during the day may indicate a generally inactive way of life, which is accompanied by an increased risk of stroke”, Xiaomin says.
