The gap between men and women, measured in terms of political influence, economic gain, health and education, has narrowed over the past year, but will spend another century to disappear, according to the World Economic Forum (ËEF).
The report predicts it will take 99.5 years for women to be in a position equal to men, although women took high profile leadership roles at the European Central Bank and the World Bank, and at the helm of several countries including Finland, Germany and New Zealand.
Last year, this forecast has been 107.5 years, the BBC writes.
According to the report, women are closing the gender gap in such areas as politics, health and education.
But gender inequality is getting worse in workplaces, despite increased demand for equal treatment, the report noted.
Women worldwide earn, on average, 40 percent less than men for similar jobs in similar positions, records Periscope.
The World Economic Forum, located in Switzerland, monitors gender inequality in 153 countries around the world.
