American Kevin King and Australian Timothy Weex were released three years ago after being kidnapped outside the American University of Afghanistan in Kanbul, where they had worked as professors.
The three militants arrived in Qatar from Afghanistan as part of the exchange, the BBC writes, translates Periscopi.
Afghan officials said the deal was intended to resume talks with the Taliban.
President Ashraf Ghan said last week that the decision was a serious but important “, but that it had <x2 humanitarian purposes”.
This exchange includes Anas Haqaqan, a central figure and a sponsor in the Haquan military group, along with two other senior commanders who have been held in prison by Afghan authorities.
It is not clear that they have already surrendered to the Taliban. /Periscope
