Sociologists and psychologists show why the number of missing people has increased

Every day on social networks, the media reports missing persons. Until some cases are presented to the police, where family members who seek help are themselves. Only until the end of October of this year, according to the Kosovo Police, 190 cases have been initiated, this not even a small number. Ferdi Kamberi, Kosovo sociologist, says [...]

Ferdi Kamberi, a Kosovo sociologist, says the phenomenon of human extinction, as a phenomenon is not new, he is present in every society and culture, but that the recent figures that have emerged in our country are very serious concerns.

“related to the disappearance of persons who were recently reported, we can say it is a serious concern not only for the family but also for the country's own institutions. Concern becomes even more serious when the missing person is not immediately reported. There should be greater awareness of society in this regard, whether through means of information, co-operation between citizens and other institutions, or other discussions in media and other areas, because it affects the overall security of both the individual and society and there may be other implications in the panic of society on general security”.

As to the factors affecting this phenomenon, Kamber mentions some of them, while he says that the consequences of the loss of persons primarily relate to persons because in most cases they result in death or in prostitution, their sales for organ trafficking by criminal groups, and others.

At the same time, though, there are consequences for the family, taking into account their concerns, problems, and other diseases as a result of the loss of the family person. The consequences are also carried to society, which reflects on social and physical uncertainty, transforming one into general fear and lack of security.

“It can be said that of the factors that can influence this phenomenon are: the deliberate disappearance that is largely attributed to multiple factors, including the difficulties people have in the whole-Social integration, family problems, overload, the spread of domestic violence that may be factors, especially the female gender may be intent on losing without warning, but the possibility of men doing the same is not ruled out.

Other factors include depression, other mental illnesses, such as neuroorosis and psychosis, suicide, then abuse of alcohol and drugs (wastardosis), suspicious circumstances, or suspicious intentions by various groups (contradicted). Other factors may include the emotional attachment between couples whose family does not approve of such status, so the couple decide to insist on losing them for a time and then appear after a time. Also, other factors are unemployment and poverty, where this is obviously linked to the standard of Kosovo society that has a poverty of about 40%, then there are factors: the exercise of prostitution and trafficking of human beings, even related to this, according to the European Commission Progress Report reportedly Kosovo is still considered a transit country of human beings, etc.

Other factors that are not disfellowshipped include the loss of children in particular as a result of the abuse of them/atto, the union in a religious cult that has no contact with the outside world, which is particularly evident in many Western societies, then kidnapping, natural death, and other factors”.

That the disappearance of persons or family members also poses a psychological threat, says Kosovo psychologist Arben Zeka, that anyone reporting to police or police as someone whose whereabouts are unknown, despite the circumstances of their disappearance, and considered missing up to location, is sad for family and society itself.

The families of missing persons react in ways similar to those exposed to an unexpected trauma: shock concern, confusion, ambition and a considerable sense of overload, as a result of any information that can be expected, negative or positive, on the family aneurysm for which we can't afford to lose hope is gone forever.

Family members also experience feelings of anger and frustration in response to the situation. Such anger may be directed toward the missing person, to himself, to other family members, or to those outside the family unit, depending on whom they realize they are guilty of the situation. Anger and frustration may also be directed to police or other organizations that are not doing enough to find the missing person or that they are not doing enough to find the person”.

On the other hand, the largest number of missing persons reported to the police result in being female, these highly sensitive cases, which psychologist Zeka says should be minimized.

“While there are inherent risks associated with every event of missing persons, specific groups of the population are known as particularly sensitive. The dark and open secrets of women's disappearance are far more likely to be a case of rape and that unfortunately they're most likely to be killed is true. Despite the thousands of women missing each year, and thousands are violated during their lifetime, surprisingly few statistics are available, and fewer jobs have been done to minimize this situation, so it cannot be said.

A key part of understanding a social problem and a predecessor for its prevention is understanding what causes it, this problem seems to consist on a line of investigation: examining characteristics affecting the behavior of violators and considering whether some women have a higher sensitivity to victimism than other subjects or phenomena. On the contrary, only hypothetically we can say that if we don't have enough power in the social circle and that the female's well-deserved treatment is causing her to be abused or violated by her rights”.

However, sociologist Kamberi links the pressure women have in their family, community, and society.

I consider that some of the reasons for women's loss/invisibility are also the pressure put on them in the family, community and society, because they are often more exposed to pressure, stigmatisation or public lynching and often as a result of a patriarchal system that affects women than men. In other words, it is a systematic patriarchal model that has been adopted, even though society has recently changed, but still that this model continues to have a lot of pressure on women, seeing it as secondary in relation to men, tagging, portraying it even with sexy language, and often women as the result of powerlessness, pressure, economic independence, violence, but other factors are also affected by this phenomenon, although men are equally affected.
