Rare view of the 2002 Gjilan earthquake

The last quake in Gjilan had occurred on April 24, 2002. According to seismologists, a similar earthquake may occur after 80 years.
Tirana Seismological Institute Professor Shyqri Aliaj has said that a similar earthquake needs to accumulate energy, which requires several decades to occur.
According to him, a severe shake of the earth, like what happened on April 24, 2002, where one person lost his life, got hurt by others and caused considerable material damage, can be repeated after 80 years.
Professor Aliaj and his associates had stayed in Gjilan for several days to investigate the seismological situation of this region, where, according to data from the Tirana Institute, a 9-magnical earthquake in Mercal had occurred in 1755.
Although earth's quakes may occur very rarely, the risk rate should be taken into account by experts during the design and construction of high objects. Respecting building standards in seismic sensibilities is a necessary measure.
