The European Union continues to be seeking a prominent figure for the role of special envoy for the Western Balkans.
The most serious candidate is Slovak diplomacy chief Miroslav Lajcak, Serbian media report.
The EU wants in this form to ease the influence of the United States of America in the region.
As well-informed of experienced circumstances and politicians, Lajcak, engaged in different rounds, is the candidate who meets all conditions.
Lajcak has even reportedly already talked about the new role with the future head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
“The U.S. has two representatives for the Western Balkans and we have none. So that's why things are going this way”, Lajcak was quoted as saying during his meeting with Borrell.
“Cesting” has been open since the new composition of the European Commission was set.
