On World Diabetes Day, which even in Kosovo is being marked with a variety of activities, it has been said that this disease is affecting large numbers of people in Kosovo as well. It is even critical because this disease has affected only 38 people under the age of 18 who are insulinmakers.
National Institute for Health Director Naser Ramadani said diabetes is a disease that, if not treated over time, could cause negative effects on the entire human organism and cut life expectancy.
According to him, in Kosovo it is estimated that the insulin is 13,337, where female gender is dominated.
While, Health Ministry General Secretary Naim Bardiqi said it is a good time to raise awareness of the risk of this disease through the marking of this day.
According to him, the Health Ministry offers free insulin for all affected.
Sergey Koruak, chief of the WTO office in Pristina, diabetes is a serious, non-infective chronic illness, and in recent years the increase in disease is seen.
Erina Tafasikou, endocrinologist at the Endorkrinology Clinic at KKUK, has announced that even in Kosovo year after year there is an increase in patients affected by this disease.
According to her, during the past year, 612 people with diabetes type 2 of which 340 females, 242 males, have been hospitalised in this clinic.
Tafasikou said that according to statistics of expert ambulances, it was only done last month that 623 patients were treated.
Director of the Chief Centre of Family Medicine, Sahadite Hadri, said it is disturbing that 38 cases of under 18 years of age have been recorded this disease and that are insulinmakers. /Kosovo pres/
