A former British Army intelligence officer who was honoured by the Queen for his work with the civil protection group “White Health in Syria has been found dead near his Istanbul office.
James Le Mesurier's body was discovered in the early hours of Monday, White Hallmes sources told BBC.
Le Mesurier founded the emergency response group on Mayday Rescue, who helped train the White Helms volunteers.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
According to sources, Le Mesurier's body was found at about 04:30 local time, on the road ahead of the office used by the Mayday Rescue.
Le Mesurier, who had also worked for the United Nations, was considered the founder of the White Nights, alongside Periscope.
The organisation, also known as Syria's Civil Protection, helps rescue civilians caught in attacks in areas of Syria controlled by opponents of President Bashar al-Assad.
