The residents of Tuzla, a large working class district that handles shipbuilding on the Asian side of the city, had rejoiced last week when they found their debts in stores repaid by an unknown benefactor.
Somebody came over and asked me about my customers' wine notebook. There were four people with great sums and I told them where they lived. He came back after talking to them and paid those debts. I also learned that he had already told these families before he did,” said Coskun Yilmaz, the owner of one of the shops, writes The Guardian, follows Periscope.
I asked him his name and he said: “Call me Robin Hood””.
Food and rental prices rose greatly after Turkey's currency, lira, suffered badly during last year's economic crisis, and inflation dropped by 8.6 per cent from 25% to 25%.
Unemployment is continuing to rise as well, while the current has been expensive tenfold since last year.
The same charity is believed to be behind envelopes containing 1,000 liras, or 150 euros, placed at the doors of needy families. /Periscope
