A member of the Turkish Army has been killed in fighting Kurdish militia YPG in northern Syria, Turkey's Defence Ministry announced today.
Five “employees” were also injured in the incident in Rasa l-Ain area. Still unclear is whether the five people reportedly injured are Turkish soldiers.
To Turkish military personnel, fire has been opened as they were “in an intelligence mission” and they have since been countered to fire, the Defence Ministry said.
There has been no confirmation of this incident from the People's Protection Unit (YPG).
Turkey launched an offensive in northeast Syria on October 9th, initially to fight members of the YPG, who it considers terrorist. The offensive was interrupted after Russia and the United States reached ceasefire agreements.
Turkey and Russia have also reached an agreement on joint border patrol with Syria. Under this agreement, Kurdish fighters will be expelled about 30km from the Turkish-Siri border.
On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has warned he will remove Kurds himself from the border if Russia does not respect the deal.
