The Pristina Institute for Political Studies (PIPS) at the “Kosovo's version in the face of Serbia's campaign for attracting recognition”, has said that the Republic of Kosovo is being badly damaged on the domestic and external plains, which has brought 15 removal of Kosovo's recognition, and is weakening Kosovo in terms of dialogue for the future.
Butrint Berisha from PIPS said the campaign for attracting recognitions on Serbia started in 2017 and by Serbian authorities so far have declared that 15 states have abolished recognition for the Republic of Kosovo.
“As far as the objectives of this campaign on the part of Serbia are three, the first goal is to weaken Kosovo in dialogue with Serbia so that Kosovo will be able to make concessions that Serbia wants in this dialogue. The second goal of this campaign is to stop expanding Kosovo's diplomacy, whether through new recognitions or through integration of multilateral mechanisms. While the third goal is bringing the number of states to the UN under 97 states”, Berisha stressed.
He said that as regards the consequences the campaign has produced for attracting recognitions, there have been effects on both the external and domestic plans.
This campaign has weakened Kosovo's position and its international legitimacy in the external plan. This can be testified, this year is the first since the Declaration of Independence that Kosovo has no recognition from other states. In this way Kosovo is a defansive to spend time and resources to protect its recognitions, not to have diplomatic expansion”, he stressed.
The PIPS has recommended that the next government find forms to prevent Serbia's vicious campaign to abolish Kosovo recognitions.
Berisha said that in relation to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, the new government, whatever it is, should address the issue of the fee to start Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
He believes that in autumn the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue will begin.
