The Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo have intensified efforts to bring the governing programme closer as a first step towards achieving the next coalition.

Currently, meetings are being held at the level of working groups, while the next phase of the talks is designed to take place at the level of party leaders, when the division of key ministries and positions is expected during the upcoming governing mandate.

What the two parties have agreed to in principle is that the government should be guided by the prime minister coming from the ranks of the winning election party, which in this case implies Vetevendosje Movement and its leader, Albin Kurti.

Similarly, Vetevendosje and LDK's goal is to create a government of 12 or 15 ministries at the maximum.

It remains to be seen whether the party that assumes the position of prime minister, the Vetevendosje Movement, will also assume the position of the Speaker of the Parliament or this position will free the LDK.

On these topics, the talks are said to be carried to political leaders, while for now, it is stressed that it is discussing programming issues and reducing the number of ministries.

Also in place of reaching agreement and co-governance was the meeting held between the current candidate for prime minister, Albin Kurti and Vjosa Osman of LDK.

Kosovo will emerge from the crisis and progress. Our cooperation is our commitment. Good intentions and good jobs are our responsibility to the citizens of the Republic and institutions of the state, the Kurti wrote on Facebook.

The representatives, of the two political parties, say they are in the final phase of agreeing to harmonise programme plans to co-govern.

Albulen Haxhiu of the Vetevendosje Movement told Radio Free Europe that for some programming areas, such as it is for the economy, they are already on the same lines.

Haxhiu has voiced optimism that talks between the working groups will be conducted soon so that the phase of talks at the level of the two parties' leaders will continue.

“are some issues which are not the competence of the processing group. The task force has no authority over which minister we will have. In this case this belongs to the rank of the mayors. So our work as a working group is just program harmonization. We are optimistic in this regard. We have so far seen a will and readiness by LDK representatives for co-governance with Vetevendosje Movement”, Haxhiu said.

Haxhiu said the subsequent meetings will be held tomorrow as well as next week, and then there will be meetings of political party leaders.

Democratic League of Kosovo spokesman Besian Mustafa told Radio Free Europe that LDK and LVV are on a good track to reach the final agreement on co-government coalition.

There will be meetings of working groups of different fields nearly every three days to complete the joint programme. After the Certificate of results from the CEC will continue with the political summit between the political leaders of our two parties, so Mr. Mustafa and Mr. Kurti, where the final political part of the co-governance agreement, Mustafa said.

The Vetevendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, since announcing the preliminary result of the 6 October parliamentary elections, are in an effort to reach agreement on forming the new government.

The leaders of the Vetevendosje Movement have also held meetings with representatives of non-party communities, excluding only representatives of the Serbian List here.

Albulen Haxhiu has not been able to say whether part of the agreement will be the inclusion of communities within the ruling coalition.

We don't have any decision on this, but we're willing to cooperate with them. We believe it is important to include Kosovo's non-US communities. Therefore, after finalising the coalition with the LDK, we will proceed with further steps. So, we can't connect a coalition once with representatives of the non-US community without becoming a major coalition (with LDK)”, Haxhiu said.

The two political parties, the LVV and LDK, have said they are awaiting the Certificate of results from the Central Election Commission to move forward with the final steps of the agreement.

The Vetevendosje and Democratic League of Kosovo, even before the 6 October elections, have met several times, but failed to make a pre-election coalition and compete in partition.

Of the preliminary results of the Central Election Commission, the Vetevendosje Movement has won 25.49 per cent of the vote, rich from the Democratic League of Kosovo with 24.82 per cent of the vote.

These results do not include conditional votes, votes by mail and votes of persons with special needs.
