The European Union must keep up its promise of opening negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia, as the two countries have performed the required tasks and deserve to be rewarded, German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth told the German newspaper”Welt am Sonntag”.
The rejection would seriously jeopardise the EU's credibility, peace and stability of the Western Balkans. If we create a political vacuum, it will be filled without many actors such as Russia, China, Turkey or the Middle East”, he stressed.
Our “Partners should not break the given”, he said.
On October 15th, we should open the green light for negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia. The two countries have fulfilled the tasks, and this must be rewarded. We have taken our vows and now we have to keep”, Roth stressed.
Even days ago, Michael Roth said in an interview with DW that “hopes that on October 15th in Brussels we will have success together in providing green light for opening accession negotiations with northern Macedonia and with Albania”.
