Jiang Zemin had been the last Chinese president to visit Nepal in 1996.
Xi was hosted by President Nepale Bedrija Dev Bhandar and Prime Minister PK Sharma Oli at Kathmandu Airport.
Narayan Kaji Shreshta, a spokesman for the ruling Communist Party Nepal, said the countries are expected to sign a project report on the construction of a railway link between Kathmandu and Keirung in Tibet.
