At the press conference held at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Cakaj clearly underlines that the EU's decision not to start negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia does not relate to the failure to meet conditions set for the two countries but is related to the political situation in which the EU is present.
“Albania as well as Macedonia were treated equally because the two countries have met the necessary conditions for opening negotiations, so postponing the decision has nothing to do with meeting the conditions from the two countries but relates to other surrounding factors directly related to reforming the European Union. ”- Minister Cakaj said in his address.
According to him, if the EU's future is in question, Albania cannot offer an answer.
The European Union will undergo a reform of itself, in its internal functional and institutional terms” -- he underlined, while saying that Albania has met the conditions in deepening property results, establishing judicial troops, and fighting organised crime and corruption.
Meanwhile, he confirmed his personal and institutional commitment that the integration process is irreversible.
“Albania is an exemplary model of reforms in the region, actively engaging in life of Europe and its ideals in Albania”- finished its word Minister Cakaj
But this Zaev's stance has tried to refute Albania's incumbent Foreign Minister Cakaj, who stressed that discussions of early elections in the neighbouring country are early and do not concern the European Council's decision.
The default for early elections in northern Macedonia is earlier than yesterday. You can't connect the process. This discussion was not the result of the Council's” decision, Cakaj stressed in front of journalists.
Cakaj also stated that “in northern Macedonia has pledged that this process (the spread of negotiations) will inevitably take place”, while the Albanian government provided no guarantees for the process.
