It is generally rare for high school dropouts to become one of the richest people in the world but still, this happens from time to time.
Here are some of the most popular billionaires who have also abandoned high school:
Amanicio Ortega
Amanicio Ortega left school at the age of 14 to start running jobs for local shops. Years later, Ortega founded the retail chain Zara in his native Spain. Today his company is recognised nationally.
Today, he is the second richest man in Europe, worth a staggering $70.4 billion.
Jay Z
Jay-Z attended the George Westinghouse technical-professional high school but never graduated. Jay-Z became the first hip-hop billionaire in June 2019.
According to Forbes, he currently has an estimated $1 billion worth. His wealth comes from his stake in brands of liquor, art, real estate and such companies as Uber.
As he personally successfully left high school, the rapper encourages people to take their education seriously.
Richard Branson
Richard Branson left high school when he was only 16 years old after fighting dyslexia. Soon after he left school, Branson founded his first business, a student magazine, and eventually a recording company that later became Virgin Records' musical lab.
Today, his company, Virgin Group, oversees nearly 500 subsidiarys. Branson himself has a net value of $3.9 billion.
Francois Pinault
Francois Pinaul, founder of the luxury group Kering, left school when he was 11 years old to work at his father's first classes factory.
According to Forbes, Pinaul left because his peers used to ridicule his “relationship”. Today, he has a net value of $3.2 billion.
Jou Kunfei
Jou Kunfei left high school at age 16 to work at a vision lens factory.
By attending accounting classes at night, she spared about 2,500 dollars and eventually opened her own visual lens company, directed by her and her family.
She is now CEO of Lens Technology, which produces glass for such brands as Apple, Samsung and Tesla. In 2015 the company went public, and Jou's business shares were worth $7.2 billion, according to the New York Times.
