European Union Ambassador to Skopje Samuel Zbogar in an interview for Radio Free Europe says he is optimistic that the agreement between Macedonia and Greece on the name issue, known as the Prespa Agreement, will pass smoothly to the Greek Parliament as well.
What I see is commitment to the Greek Prime Minister (Alexis Tsepras) to implement the Agreement in the Greek Parliament. I too trust his commitment and determination and I think we should remain optimistic and focus on positive growth”, Zbogar says.
It simultaneously stresses that the Prespa Agreement presents a real achievement for Macedonia as a state in terms of unblocking integration processes. However, according to Ambassador Zbogar, it is important that all state institutions work hard on implementing reforms, on what it depends on getting the date for starting negotiations on Macedonia's membership in the European Union.
Zbogar underscores that if the Government of Macedonia is to engage with the same capacity for implementing reforms, as it committed to implementing the Prespa Agreement, then it should not worry about what will happen in June to the European Commission, when it will be decided to recommend the start of membership talks.
