Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini, today on the 20th anniversary of the Recak massacre committed by Serbian forces, paid tribute and placed flowers at the Memorial complex in this village in honour of the victims of January 15, 1999. Then, at the Memorial Academy held in memory of this day, Chief Prime Minister Wessel said Recak is synonymous with our own historical destiny as a nation, synonymous with the price of our freedom, independence, and state.
“20 years ago we found strength, to turn the pain into mobilization to continue the course of freedom. Today, we are just as committed to living today, working for the secure and proud future of our nation. We have something to feel proud of”, Wessel stressed.
He said that today on Kosovo institutions is the obligation that reflects past sacrifices and dreams for the future, to build a Kosovo, as did the heroes of Recak, the Prescazi and all of Kosovo, as our children love it, and this is Kosovo with the rule of law, with economic development, with quality lives of our citizens, without corruption and forms of discrimination, without crimes that violate the lives of our citizens, police or soldiers.
“Today we may not yet be able to bring to justice those who committed the massacre of Recak, Meje, Rezalla, Studies, Krusha, Prekazi, Suhareka, which address and shelter have Serbia. But, today when we're talking about the controversial dialogue of recent months, neither in Belgrade is the idea of Serbia's return to Kosovo. In Belgrade it is now talking about the form of how Serbia can recognise the state of Kosovo. Serbia has been deported, never to return to Kosovo, and the credit for this is to you invincible citizens of Recak, to the Kosovo Liberation Army, our entire nation. While, the race, from December 15th of last year, is the Kosovo Army”, Veselin said.
Speaking of dialogue with Serbia, he said the challenge of this confrontation requires uniting Kosovo's political spectrum.
“The sovereignty of the state, territorial and institutional integrity are sacred values for us, and therefore invulnerable. We enter dialogue to finalise Kosovo's international statehood to get recognition of the state of Kosovo from Serbia and membership in the United Nations Organisation”, Veselin said.
Wessel also spoke of the beginning of the work of the Special Court, assessing that the commitment to the country's future has led many fellow fighters today, instead of being here, to face the demands of selective justice, which questions the justice of the liberation war.
We are not afraid of this confrontation. We're not even leaving him. We will also pay this price, and as always, we have a great show. Kosovo's Liberation Army has been, is and will remain the greatest pride of our people”, said Chief Prime Minister Wessel.
