Judge Vladyslav Devyatko also said that Yanukovych is guilty of asking Russian President Vladimir Putin to deploy troops in Ukraine.
Prosecutors demanded that Yanukovych be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The decision was announced in his absence. It is believed that Yanukovych currently takes refuge in Russia.
Yanukovych, pro-rus, has collapsed from power by protests against him in February 2014.
Shortly after, Russia annexed the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula.
Russia has also sparked unrest and supported separatists east of Ukraine.
The war there between pro-Russian separatists and government forces has left more than 10,300 people dead.
The International Criminal Court has concluded in November 2016 that fighting east of Ukraine is “an armed international conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation”.
