Saudi Arabia bans divorce without announcing women

Starting this Sunday, courts will be asked to report to women via phone messages about their divorce decisions.

Local lawyers say the new measure will put an end to so-called secret “divorce, in which men can choose to end their marriage without telling this to their wives.

The new measure will ensure that women are completely informed of their marital status as well as have the opportunity to protect the rights to financial support.

Last year, a ban that prevented women from driving was lifted in Saudi Arabia.
