Top Russian officials have dismissed claims that US President Donald Trump may have worked for Moscow's interests, naming these statements “absurde” and the crazy “”.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said at a news conference on January 16th that American media reports on the issue reflect a drastic decline in journalism standards.
The New York Times reported last week that following James Comeyt's dismissal from the office of FBI director in 2017, this agency has launched investigations into whether Trump has been working on Russia's interests.
This dismissal has resulted in Robert Muller's appointment to the position of Special Adviser, who is committed to investigate whether there were Russian interventions in the presidential elections held in 2016 in the US, and whether Trump's aides have collaborated with Moscow.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post has reported that Trump has tried to hide details of his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Post reported that on one occasion Trump received the paperwork from his translator and ordered him not to discuss what happened at the meeting.
Trump himself has said last week that he has never acted in favour of Russia and has reiterated claims that investigations into his ties with Russia are fraud.
Partaras Lavrov, Yuri Usshakov, Russian President Vladimir Putin's adviser for Foreign Affairs, has also been scoffed at that Trump may have worked for Russia's interests.
What nonsense are you talking about?
How could someone comment on such madness? These comments have reached such a large degree and it is strange to talk about”.
“
Usakov has said that relations between Russia and the US “cannot be at the worst”.
