For the next two days, NATO member states' army chiefs have participated in the work of the Military Committee, which took place in Brussels.
The chairman of the Committee, Marchal Peach, announced that part of the discussions have also been developments in the Western Balkans and those in Kosovo with the Kosovo Security Force.
“NATO and the Western Balkans share the common goal of stability in the region and the defeat of terrorism. Army chiefs reiterated that changes in NATO's behaviour would depend on the situation on the ground, not on the calendar deadlines”, said Marshal Peach, chairman of the NATO Military Committee.
KFOR's mandate in Kosovo, according to Peach, will remain the same.
“has been 19 years since NATO has helped maintain a secure environment in Kosovo through our mission there, known as KFOR. We will continue and, as the Secretary General has made public known, we will reevaluate our commitment with the KSF, if its mandate changes and this position remains unchanged. And, with our mission in Kosovo, we will continue to operate under the United Nations mandate, which is not affected by changes in the transfer of KSF”, said Peach, KTV.
One of the questions Peach avoided was whether countries like France, Britain and the US will train Kosovo Army soldiers.
Otherwise, among the conclusions he mentioned after the Committee meeting, it has been that for the heads of NATO member armies, Russia and international terrorist groups remain the main challenges. /Periscopi
